Santa Catalina Island, often called Catalina Island, is a rocky island off the coast of the U.S. state of California in the Gulf of Santa Catalina. The highest point on the island is 2,097 feet (639 m) known as Mt. Orizaba. Santa Catalina is part of the Channel Islands of the California archipelago and lies within Los Angeles County. Catalina’s legend displays the following history: Native tribes settled on the island over 7,000 years before being claimed by Spain in 1542. It’s location was perfect for the operations of fur traders and pirates alike, until the mid-19th century when the land started to be sold as a tourist attraction. Eventually, William Wrigley of the Wrigley Gum fortune purchased the island and developed it as a popular destination getaway for Hollywood’s rich and famous. We design and assemble all of our maps in the Reno/Tahoe area, and all laser etching is done by lasers that we design and build in house. These maps are etched into Baltic birch wood and hand framed with a wire wrap along the back, allowing you to hang it as soon as it arrives! We hope you love it! Dimensions: 16 x 20 x 2 inches
